V50 AC Problem

My 2006 Volvo V50 with a gasoline engine's A/C stopped working. The A/C no longer cools, and I get an error message when diagnosing. I suspect undervoltage might be the cause. The car has 104380 km. Any advice?

I had a similar issue with my V50. Is the compressor clutch engaging? Does it make any sound? The pressure sensor can cause similar symptoms, or even a faulty relay switch. Could be low refrigerant, but the error code would hint at that.

Thanks. I'm not sure about the compressor clutch. Where do I check that? I thought the system prevents the compressor from engaging if the pressure is too low?

Low pressure should prevent engagement, but sensors fail. The compressor clutch is on the front of the compressor. You should hear a 'click' when it engages. A workshop is usually best for A/C issues. They have the tools to diagnose and refill the system.

Thanks, that's helpful. I took it to a local mechanic, and you were right – it was a faulty relay switch affecting the A/C compressor. The repair cost 240€.
