V50 Headlight Range Control Fault

I'm at my wit's end. I've got a 2005 Volvo V50 with a gasoline engine, and I'm pulling my hair out over a headlight range control fault. The dashboard is lit up with a warning light, and the error memory has stored the fault. The low beams are either pointing way too low or way too high, it’s completely unpredictable and dangerous! I'm suspecting a defective servomotor, but before I start tearing things apart, has anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar issue on my V50. Have you checked the electrical connectors to the headlight assembly? Sometimes they become loose or corroded, causing intermittent problems with the auto-leveling system. Is it just one headlight or both?

Thanks for the tip! I did give the connectors a quick look-over, but didn't spend too much time on them. Was your issue intermittent, or was it a constant problem? And did both of your headlights act up, or just one?

The problem was constant on mine, and it affected both headlights. Considering the error code and your symptoms, a faulty servomotor is the most likely culprit. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and repair.

Thanks a bunch! I was hoping to avoid the workshop, but it sounds like it’s the only way. I took your advice and brought it in, and you were spot on: both servomotors were shot. Cost me 1040€ to get them replaced. Appreciate the help!
