V50 Hissing and Power Loss

I have a 2011 Volvo V50 with a gasoline engine, mileage is at 111984 km. Recently the check engine light came on, and I've noticed reduced engine power. Also, there's a whistling noise, almost a loud hissing, when I accelerate. I had the error memory read out and it says there is a charge air temperature sensor error. I checked the air intake, but can't see any obvious issues. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar! I have a V50 too, and I had similar symptoms last year – hissing, loss of power, the works. Was your temperature gauge acting weird too? Did you check the cable and plug connection of the temperature sensor? That’s where my problem was.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the temperature gauge seems normal. I did not check the cable and plug. Where exactly is that located, and what should I look for?

Okay, if the temp gauge is okay, that eliminates one possibility. Honestly, I'm not super mechanically inclined myself, but when I had the exact same symptoms (hissing + power loss) it turned out to be a faulty connection to the sensor. I'd say check the connection, but honestly, it might be worth just taking it to a workshop to get it diagnosed properly, since they have the tools to properly diagnose the cable.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I took it to the workshop and you were right, it was a defective plug connection to the temperature sensor. They fixed it for 95€ and all is well again!
