V50 rough running and stalling

My 2012 Volvo V50 gasoline engine is acting up. It's only done 29464 km. I'm getting rough engine running, it stalls at idle, the check engine light is on, and it jerks when accelerating. Could a defective cable or plug connection cause this?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Volvo V50 is experiencing rough engine running, stalling at idle, a check engine light, and jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion is a defective cable or plug connection, possibly involving the spark plugs or ignition coil. It is suggested to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop to read error codes and accurately identify the issue, as a similar case was resolved by replacing a defective ignition coil.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar happen with my V50, though I can't remember the year. Rough running and stalling sounds familiar. Did you notice if it happens more when the engine is cold, or is it all the time? Also, have you tried checking the spark plugs? It might be something simple like that before you start worrying about more complex issues.

Thanks for the reply! It seems to be happening all the time, not just when it's cold. I haven't checked the spark plugs yet. Could it really be the plugs with these symptoms, especially the check engine light?

Well, with the check engine light, it could be a number of things. But the rough running and stalling is what made me think of plugs. Honestly, with those symptoms and the light, it might be best to get it checked out by a workshop. They can read the error codes and pinpoint the problem. I ended up doing that and it saved me a lot of guesswork, though it cost me 95€ to fix a defective ignition coil, and they suspected the cable or plug connection of the component to be defective.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a workshop and get them to diagnose it properly. Sounds like the ignition coil could be the culprit. Appreciate the help!
