V70 AC Problems

My 2003 Volvo V70 with a diesel engine is having AC problems. The air conditioning no longer cools, and the system doesn't switch on at all. I'm also getting a warning light and an error stored in the memory. I've checked the refrigerant level, and it seems okay. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 5-series. Same symptoms – AC wouldn't kick on, error codes popping up. Did you happen to check the AC compressor relay and the compressor itself for power?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the compressor relay or power to the compressor yet. Is that a common failure point? Where is the relay located on the V70?

On my BMW, the relay was a known weak spot. If the relay is fine, it could be a faulty compressor or even the AC control unit. Given the symptoms, and the fact that you already checked the refrigerant level, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. Could save you time and money in the long run.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a local shop, and they confirmed the AC control unit is defective, leading to refrigerant compressor failure. Repair cost is estimated at 980€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
