V70 fuel consumption hard start

I'm experiencing a problem with my 2012 Volvo V70 gasoline. I've observed increased fuel consumption and difficulty starting the engine, especially in colder weather. The car has 172994 km on the clock. Could this be related to a defective throttle valve?

Hey! Those symptoms sound familiar. I had a similar issue with my old 2008 Opel Insignia. Higher fuel consumption and hard starts? Have you checked the accelerator pedal module? That was the culprit in my case.

Thank you for your input! That's interesting. I was leaning towards cleaning the throttle body first, but the accelerator pedal module is a good point. Could you elaborate on how you diagnosed the accelerator pedal module as the issue? Did you experience any other symptoms?

Well, besides the fuel efficiency dropping and the rough starts, the car would sometimes hesitate when accelerating. A mechanic ran a diagnostic and it pointed directly to a faulty accelerator pedal module. I'd advise getting it checked out professionally. It might save you time and money. The repair was around 205€.
