V70 Gear Shift Indicator Failure

I cannot pinpoint the exact sensor that caused my issue, but the symptoms were virtually identical. Given the potential for electronic components to be the root cause, I strongly recommend having a qualified mechanic diagnose your V70 using professional diagnostic equipment. Confirm for yourself that a defective control unit is indeed the diagnosis, as this is a common culprit. I ended up taking it to a Volvo workshop, and they verified a problem in a main control unit.
