V90 Automatic Transmission Problems

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out! My 2016 Volvo V90 diesel is throwing a fit with 123k kilometers. The automatic transmission is acting possessed – shifting like a drunken sailor. The transmission indicator light is on, and it's not shifting properly, sometimes going straight into emergency mode. Could it be worn-out transmission oil? I've checked for any obvious leaks, but nothing. Could undervoltage trigger this?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my V90 (though I can't recall the exact mileage). Implausible shifting, limp mode... it was a nightmare. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level? That's the first thing my mechanic asked.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the fluid level, and it seemed okay, but I didn't actually replace any of it. Was your problem also related to the transmission oil itself, or was it something else entirely?

Turns out, the oil replacement did the trick. But the mechanic mentioned that low voltage can definitely mess with the electronic control unit for the transmission, causing those weird symptoms. I'd get it checked at a workshop, could save you a lot of headaches.

Appreciate the insight! Took it to the shop, and you called it – turns out the transmission oil was indeed worn out. Oil replacement plus labor set me back 240€, but now it's shifting smooth as butter. Thanks for the advice!
