Vauxhall Adam Exhaust Flap Noise

My 2017 Vauxhall Adam with a gasoline engine is making crazy noises after a cold start and sounds louder than normal. The garage says it's the exhaust flaps and there's an error code. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds familiar! I have a Vauxhall Adam as well, and I had similar symptoms last year. Loud exhaust, especially on cold starts. Those exhaust flaps are likely the culprit. They control the backpressure depending on the engine load. When they fail, they are usually stuck open which causes the extra noise. Did they mention anything about getting an exhaust blockage?

Exhaust blockage? They didn't say anything about that. They just said the exhaust flap is defective and needs replacing. What's the blockage got to do with it? Is that a related issue?

Sometimes a failed flap can cause a partial blockage, but it sounds like they've already pinpointed the problem. If the garage is telling you the flap itself is faulty, trust their diagnosis. I'd get it replaced asap, or you risk further exhaust repair in future.

Appreciate the input! The garage replaced the exhaust flap, and it cost me 190€. The noise is gone, and the error code is cleared. Hopefully, that's the end of it!
