Vauxhall Adam oil contamination

I'm stressed! A warning light keeps popping up in the speedometer of my 2014 Vauxhall Adam, gasoline engine. The oil pressure warning lamp is also lighting up. The oil level is fine, but it looks gunky. Is this an oil contamination issue? Could exceeding a maintenance interval cause oil sludge? What sort of oil additives can I use, or is it time for an oil change?

I experienced something similar with my old Volvo, though it was a diesel. The oil pressure light combined with the oil looking unusual suggests a potential issue with oil circulation due to contamination, like cholesterol in your arteries, only for your engine. It might be worth investigating the potential causes of oil sludge and how they relate to your maintenance schedule.

So, you think it's definitely a contamination problem and not just a faulty sensor? What fixed it for you, and how much did it set you back? Did you need any special oil additives, or was it just a matter of changing the oil?

Based on the symptoms, contamination is quite probable. In my case, it turned out to be a buildup of sludge due to extended oil change intervals and some short trips. I would still recommend consulting a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and evaluate the extent of the damage. They can perform a more thorough inspection, including checking the oil pump and other related components, and provide the most appropriate solution for your Adam. Trying to self-diagnose based on the light is like trying to diagnose a shadow. It tells you something is there, but not what that something is.

Okay, thanks! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. They said the oil was heavily contaminated, likely from skipping an oil change. They flushed the engine, changed the oil and filter, and reset the warning lights. Cost me 165€, but at least it's running smoothly again. Lesson learned: stick to the maintenance schedule!
