Vectra ABS and Steering Issues

Hi, I've got a 2003 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. Recently, the tire pressure low warning light has come on. On top of that, the ABS lamp lights up, I'm getting a vibrating steering wheel, and it feels like the power steering is failing because I need to put more effort in when steering. I checked the tire pressure with my tire gauge, and it seems low. I can't see any obvious damage to the tires. Could it be a slow air leak?

Hey, I had something similar happen in my Vectra. The shaking steering wheel and extra effort needed when steering are definitely worrying. It sounds like a valve problem. Like when you have a leaky water bottle - you keep filling it, but it keeps going empty!

Interesting, thanks! When you say a valve problem, do you mean the tire valve itself? And did you have all the same symptoms, especially the ABS light?

Yeah, the tire valve. It was letting air out super slowly. The ABS light was on because the car thought the tire pressure difference between wheels was massive. I'd get it checked at a garage if I were you - they can sort it quickly.

Thanks a bunch! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a defective valve in the tire. They replaced it, and now everything's back to normal. Cost me 280€, but worth it for the peace of mind!
