Vel Satis rough cold starting

Hi. I've got a 2005 Renault Vel Satis, diesel engine, with 182605 km on the clock. Recently, it's been running rough when cold starting, plus the fuel consumption seems higher than usual. The diagnostics threw up an error, which points towards a problem with the PTC heater. Anyone else had similar issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Renault Vel Satis with a diesel engine is experiencing rough cold starts and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics indicate a problem with the PTC heater, which is likely causing these issues, especially in colder temperatures. The suggested solution is to consult a qualified automotive technician for a professional assessment and potentially replace the defective PTC heater to restore proper engine performance and fuel efficiency.

Greetings. I recall encountering a similar predicament with my Renault Vel Satis, albeit a newer model. The symptoms you describe resonate with my past experience. Have you observed any correlation between the ambient temperature and the severity of the engine's erratic behavior during cold starts? Furthermore, could you elaborate on the specific error code retrieved from the diagnostic system? In my situation, the malfunctioning PTC heater induced elevated fuel consumption and compromised the engine's operational efficiency in colder climatic conditions.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't specifically noted the temperature, but it does seem worse on colder mornings, you're right. The error code was related to the auxiliary heater circuit, I don't recall the exact code, sorry.

Understood. Given the error code pertaining to the auxiliary heater circuit and the exacerbation of symptoms during colder ambient temperatures, the diagnosis of a defective PTC heater appears plausible. Considering the potential ramifications of a malfunctioning auxiliary heater on engine performance and fuel economy, I recommend seeking counsel from a qualified automotive technician. Replacement of the defective PTC heater is likely necessary, potentially incurring expenses in the vicinity of 350€. A professional assessment can ascertain the extent of the damage and ensure proper rectification of the issue.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicions. I'll get it booked in for a check up and heater replacement.
