Vel Satis starting problem

My 2008 Renault Vel Satis with a gasoline engine won't start reliably. It stalls at idle, the check engine light is on, it runs rough, fuel consumption is up, and the diagnostic scan says fuel pump malfunction. Could a defective cable or plug cause this, or is it something worse?

I have a Vel Satis with the gasoline engine too. I had similar, though not as many, symptoms once. Could it be something with the fuel injector? Did you check the gasoline delivery and the whole fuel system?

If it were a fuel injector issue, wouldn't I expect a more localized misfire, rather than a complete failure to start at times? Did your Vel Satis have the same symptoms, including the check engine light and the rough idling?

The check engine light came on, and the rough idling was definitely there. I am no expert, but the workshop guys told me there are many possible errors. They said something about testing the pump and all connections. They fixed it quickly, so maybe you should visit a professional?

It seems a visit to a mechanic is best. After diagnostics, a faulty connection was the cause. A replacement plug, costing 95€, has fixed it.
