Vel Satis Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Renault Vel Satis owner experienced transmission issues, including rough shifting, grinding noises, and limp mode, with an engine light and transmission warning. The suspected cause was a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Another owner suggested checking the transmission oil level, as low fluid could cause sensor errors. After topping up the fluid and replacing the sensor, the issues were resolved.

Oil level too low? Interesting, I hadn't considered that. The error code points directly to the transmission oil temp sensor, so I immediately suspected that. Is it possible a low oil level could trigger a faulty sensor reading?

That's exactly what happened to me. The low fluid level caused the sensor to read funny and throw the code. Honestly, considering the symptoms and the error code, I'd definitely get it checked by a workshop. I needed to replace the sensor in the end anyway.

Appreciate the insight! You were spot on. I topped up the transmission fluid, and the shifting improved immediately. I also changed the sensor. Cost me 365€ all in. Thanks again!

Rough shifting and a grinding noise? Sounds familiar! I have a Vel Satis as well. Have you checked your transmission oil level? That was the problem when I had similar symptoms. What error codes are you getting?
