Veloster Belt Tensioner Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Hyundai Veloster owner suspects a faulty belt tensioner due to the belt-handover malfunctioning and a recent chirping noise, especially when the engine is cold. Another Veloster owner confirms that these symptoms likely indicate a tensioner issue, suggesting that the noise worsening with engine speed is a telltale sign. The recommended solution is to have the tensioner checked and possibly replaced at a workshop to prevent potential engine damage.

Yeah, I've noticed a chirping sound recently, especially when the engine is cold. So, you think it's definitely the belt tensioner then?

Sounds like a bingo! If the chirping gets worse with engine speed, it's almost certainly the tensioner, that's like a telltale sign. I’d recommend taking it to a workshop to have it checked properly though, as if it fails completely it could cause major damage to your engine. I did replace it eventually and the cost was around 455€.

Thanks for the advice! Looks like a trip to the workshop is in order. I appreciate the help!

Whoa, sounds rough! I've got a Veloster myself (though I won't bore you with the year), and a similar thing happened to me last year. Is it making a weird noise, like a squeal or a chirp, especially when you first start it up? It could be a sign that the tensioner pulley isn't doing its job, just like a wobbly plate that is not sitting right.
