Veloster gear shift indicator failure

My 2012 Hyundai Veloster with a gasoline engine has a gear shift indicator that's gone crazy. The display is dead, it won't engage gears properly, shifting is slipping with grinding noises, and the computer's throwing errors. Has anyone else seen this?

I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing with your Veloster. I encountered a strikingly similar issue with my 2016 Opel Astra a few years ago. The digital display for the gear selection failed, and I experienced erratic shifting. Did you happen to notice any unusual behavior preceding the complete failure of the display?

Thanks for the reply. An Astra, huh? Yeah, now that you mention it, sometimes the display would flicker or show the wrong gear before totally dying. Did your Astra do the same thing? What did it end up being?

Yes, the flickering display was indeed the first indication of the impending failure. Given the symptoms you describe, it strongly suggests a defective control unit affecting the transmission. With an Opel Astra, the diagnostic test at the workshop revealed this to be the case. Considering the similarities, I would recommend having the car looked at by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible.

Okay, thanks a bunch for the info! Sounds like I'm headed for a costly visit to the mechanic. I was hoping it was just a fuse or something simple, but a dodgy control unit sounds about right based on everything. I'll get it checked out and share what I learn. Thanks again; appreciate the help!
