VelSatis Oil Pressure Warning
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Renault VelSatis owner reported an oil pressure warning light issue, despite the oil level being fine. The oil appeared very dark, suggesting it might be overdue for a change. The problem was identified as likely due to degraded oil from overdue maintenance, causing insufficient lubrication and pressure drop. After changing the oil and filter, the warning light issue was resolved.

The lamp flickers at idle mostly. The oil color is very dark, almost black. I've been a bit lax with maintenance lately, so it's probably been longer than it should be since the last oil change. Could that really cause the oil pressure light to come on?

Yep, sounds very similar to what I experienced. Exceeding the maintenance interval can definitely cause that issue. The oil degrades and doesn't lubricate properly, hence the pressure drop. I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop asap to prevent any consequential damage.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out I was way overdue for an oil change. New oil and filter, and the light's gone. Cost me 165€, but better than a ruined engine!

I had a similar issue with my VelSatis. Was the oil pressure lamp illuminating constantly, or just flickering? What does the oil color look like? Also, when was the last time you changed the oil and filter?
