VelSatis preheating lamp and check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Renault VelSatis diesel owner experienced issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The problem was suspected to be related to the preheating control unit. A suggestion was made to check the cable and plug connection for faults. Upon professional inspection, a defective cable at the preheating control unit was identified and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the tip! When you had the issue, were your symptoms exactly the same – preheating lamp stuck on, engine light, and smoke? And where exactly should I be looking for this cable and plug connection? Any hints?

Yep, exactly the same symptoms. It drove me nuts for a week! Eventually I took it to a workshop. They found the connection was faulty. It was cheaper than replacing the whole unit, thankfully. I'd say get it checked by a professional. It'll save you time and stress!

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was a defective cable at the preheating control unit. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted. Much appreciated!

Hey, I had a similar issue with my VelSatis a while back. I would check the cable and plug connection of the component first. It could be as simple as a loose or corroded connection causing the problem. Does the car start without any issues?
