Veracruz immobilizer issue

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2008 Hyundai Veracruz diesel. It's got about 36,440 km on it. The engine won't start. Sometimes it starts briefly, then dies immediately. I scanned it, and there's an error stored related to the immobilizer. I suspect it might be a key programming issue.

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Hyundai Veracruz diesel with 36,440 km is experiencing starting issues, with the engine sometimes starting briefly before dying. An error related to the immobilizer suggests a potential key programming issue. Despite trying both keys, the problem persists, indicating the immobilizer system recognizes the key but fails to authorize the start. The recommended solution is to have the keys reprogrammed at a workshop, which successfully resolved the issue.

I had a similar issue with my Veracruz. Same symptoms – engine refusing to stay running, immobilizer light flashing. Have you tried your spare key? Does the security light behave normally when the key is in the ignition? If it does not, incorrect key programming is a strong possibility.

Thanks for the quick reply! I've tried both keys, and the result is the same with both. The security light does come on with the key in the ignition, but I'm not sure what 'behaving normally' means in this case. How did you solve your problem? Was it definitely the key programming?

If both keys are producing the same result, and the security light is illuminated with the key present, then the immobilizer system is likely recognizing the key's presence, but failing to authorize the start. While there could be other underlying electrical issues, the error code strongly suggests the key data has somehow become corrupted, or lost synchronization with the immobilizer module. I would suggest taking it to a workshop with the appropriate diagnostic tools to reprogram the keys. It is beyond the scope of a simple DIY fix.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it turned out the key programming was indeed the problem. They recoded the key, and the car now starts without issue. The repair cost me 45€. Appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction!
