Verso Diesel Engine Power Loss

I've observed a significant reduction in engine power in my 2017 Toyota Verso diesel. A diagnostic tool shows an error indicating a problem with the engine control unit. Could a defective main relay be the cause? Has anyone encountered similar vehicle electronics or control system malfunctions?

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms - loss of power and a lit-up dashboard. Turned out to be something with the computer module. Did the error code point specifically at the ECU or was it more vague?

The error code wasn't very precise, it only hinted at a generic malfunction within the engine control unit. Did your Opel display such ambiguous error codes as well? Did replacing the computer module rectify the problem entirely?

Yeah, the error code on my Astra was equally unhelpful, just something along the lines of 'ECU communication error'. Replacing the module did fix it, but honestly, it's best to get a workshop to check the main relay, before you just replace the whole ECU. It’s an expensive part!

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice! I scheduled an appointment with a trusted workshop to have the main relay inspected. The Main relay was indeed defective, and replacing it for 120€ solved the Issue!
