Verso gear shift indicator malfunction

I'm having a weird issue with my 2013 Toyota Verso diesel. It has 77373 km. The gear shift indicator is malfunctioning. I can't engage the gears, and the automatic transmission is shifting strangely. The gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly, with grinding noises when shifting. There's an error stored, and the gear selection display in the speedometer doesn't work. It looks like a defective control unit. Has anyone seen this before?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my old Renault Scenic. The whole dashboard lit up, and the gear indicator went haywire. What a nightmare!

Could you tell me more about what happened with your Renault? Were the symptoms similar to what I described, especially with not being able to engage gears and the grinding noises?

Yeah, similar deal. I never had grinding noises like you mentioned, but the gear selector on the dash was just random letters and numbers. Shifting was totally messed up. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop; it sounds like you've got a serious electronics problem there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps to know others have had similar issues. I took it to a trusted mechanic who confirmed it's a defective control unit. The repair will cost about 1000€.
