Verso intake manifold flap issue

I've got a 2014 Toyota Verso diesel with 189049 km. Lately, I've noticed reduced engine power, rough running, and jerking when accelerating. There's also a loud hissing sound when I accelerate, and my fuel consumption has gone up. I suspect it might be related to the intake manifold flap control. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Sounds like a classic intake manifold flap issue. Is the engine light on? If so, what are the error codes?

Yes, the engine light is on. I haven't checked the error codes myself, as I don't have a code reader. Is it safe to drive it to a mechanic, or should I get it towed?

Driving it might cause further damage, especially with a suspected intake manifold issue. Think of the manifold flap as a gatekeeper for air; if it's stuck, the engine isn't getting the right mix. Best to get it towed to a workshop and have them read the codes. A defective switch is the likely culprit. Prepare for a bill though.

Thanks for the advice. I had it towed to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the intake manifold flap control switch. The total repair cost was 465€. Runs like new now!
