Viano anti theft alarm malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mercedes Viano experienced a malfunctioning anti-theft alarm system, with an error stored and the alarm not functioning. The issue was suspected to be related to the alarm being coded to activate the optical locking. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it was confirmed that incorrect coding was the cause, and recoding the system resolved the problem.

I am not familiar with the location of the alarm sensor or how to check its connections. Could you provide more specific instructions on where to find it and what I should be looking for when inspecting the connections?

While I can offer general guidance, working on car electrics can be tricky. The alarm sensor location can vary, but it's often found near the door locking mechanism or under the hood near the main electrical components. Checking the connections involves ensuring they are firmly attached and free from corrosion. However, given your unfamiliarity, I'd advise taking your Viano to a qualified workshop. A diagnostic check should pinpoint the exact cause. Tampering with the anti-theft system could create more problems. I had to take mine to the workshop for a similar issue.

I appreciate the advice. I took my Viano to the workshop, and the alarm system was indeed coded incorrectly, leading to the malfunction. Recoding the system, specifically addressing the optical locking, resolved the issue. The total cost was 45€.

I understand your concern. I have a Mercedes Vito and experienced a similar issue. The alarm sensor can be quite sensitive. When the alarm activates the indicators upon locking, it might trigger a false alarm. Have you checked the alarm sensor connections? A loose connection could cause intermittent issues and store errors. The security alarm system's proper functioning is crucial.
