Vitara Engine Stalls: Bad Fuel Pressure Sensor Alert

My 2020 Vitara with 70256km is giving me headaches lately. Engine keeps stalling at idle, runs rough overall and jerks during acceleration. The check engine light also appeared recently. Reading up on similar issues suggests a faulty fuel pressure sensor might be the culprit. Had some questionable experiences with my regular mechanic, so looking for advice on diagnosis and repair from who dealt with similar symptoms. What was your experience with these issues and what did it end up being? Also interested in rough repair costs to know what to expect.

Recently dealt with nearly identical symptoms on a 2017 Suzuki Swift. The rough running, stalling at idle and check engine light pointed to fuel system issues initially. After diagnostics, it turned out multiple problems were creating these symptoms. The main culprit was a damaged wiring harness connector at the fuel pump assembly. The corroded and loose connection was causing irregular fuel pressure readings, triggering engine misfires and unstable idle. The fuel pump itself was fine, saving significant repair costs. The repair involved cleaning the connector pins, replacing the damaged harness section, and properly sealing the connection. A full fuel system cleaning was also done since debris had worked its way in through the compromised connection. Since the fix, fuel economy improved noticeably and all drivability issues disappeared. This kind of electrical issue tends to get worse over time as corrosion spreads, so addressing it promptly is important to prevent fuel pump failure or engine damage. Would strongly recommend getting a proper diagnostic scan first, as similar symptoms can come from various fuel system or ignition related problems. The repair complexity can range from simple connector replacement to major component failure.

Thanks for sharing your Swift repair story. Interesting that it ended up being a wiring issue rather than the fuel pump itself. My Vitara has been showing similar signs with the rough idle and engine stalling problems. Currently waiting on parts after initial diagnosis. Did you happen to note how much the harness repair and fuel system cleaning cost in total? Also curious if any other issues cropped up since the repair was done? The check engine light coming on has me worried about potential hidden problems.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting the Vitara checked by the mechanic, the fuel pressure sensor defect was identified and fixed. The issue turned out to be a faulty cable connection that was causing irregular readings, similar to what happened with my Swift. The repair cost came to 95€ for fixing the cable and plug connection. This was actually less expensive than initially expected, especially considering the symptoms suggested potentially bigger fuel system problems. The check engine light cleared up right after the repair and hasnt returned. The rough idle and stalling issues completely disappeared, and fuel delivery is now working perfectly. No additional problems have surfaced in the weeks since the fix. If your symptoms match what I experienced, getting the fuel pressure sensor and its connections checked should be your first step. These fuel system issues often seem worse than they actually are, but its still important to address them quickly to prevent fuel injector problems or more serious engine damage down the line.

Wanted to update everyone on the final outcome. Took the Vitara to a different mechanic who immediately spotted issues with the fuel pressure sensor wiring. Turns out some connections had worked loose over time, causing those rough idle and stalling problems. The repair bill came to 180€ total, mostly labor costs for tracking down the exact issue and fixing the wiring. They also did a quick fuel system cleaning while they were at it. The whole job took about 3 hours. Really relieved it wasnt the fuel pump itself or something more serious. The check engine light is now off, and the engine runs smooth as new. No more jerking during acceleration or stalling issues. Fuel economy has actually improved a bit too. Good lesson learned about getting a second opinion when dealing with potentially complex engine problems. What seemed like a major issue ended up being a relatively straightforward fix.
