Volt Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Chevrolet Volt hybrid with 88,000 km is experiencing transmission issues, including warning lights, rough shifting, slipping, and grinding noises. The problem may be related to the transmission oil temperature sensor or low gearbox oil. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a faulty sensor. The solution involved replacing the temperature sensor and topping up the oil, costing 365€.

Interesting! A sensor issue on a BMW? What sensor was faulty, and what did the error code say? Did you have grinding noises? I'm trying to figure out if the sound means a serious mechanical problem.

On my BMW, the error was for the transmission output speed sensor. Faulty readings caused erratic shifting and limp-home mode. No grinding, but the rough shifts felt like the transmission was protesting. Given your Volt's symptoms, especially the grinding, get it professionally checked ASAP. It might be just the sensor, or something bigger inside the gearbox.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Your comments helped narrow it down! It was the temperature sensor and slightly low oil. The bill was 365€, which is better than I expected!

Whoa, that sounds familiar! My old BMW 3 Series had similar issues – warning lights, weird shifting, the works. The gearbox felt like a cement mixer! For me, it was a sensor. Have you checked the sensor's wiring for damage or corrosion? Electrical issues love to mess with those things.
