Volvo S80 Diesel Starting Problem

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2011 Volvo S80 diesel is giving me grief. It's got 182570 km on the clock. Lately, it's been a nightmare to start, especially when it's cold. Fuel consumption has definitely crept up, and the engine feels like it's lost a good chunk of its power. Plus, the idling is all over the place – really uneven, sometimes even stalling completely. I reckon one of the injection nozzles is defective, probably just clogged up. Anyone else experienced similar madness?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 320d. Rough idling, poor starting. Have you checked for any misfires? With the mileage, an injector issue is plausible.

Misfires, eh? I haven't specifically checked for those. How would I go about diagnosing that? Did replacing the injectors solve the problem on your BMW?

Yeah, replacing the injectors did the trick for me. Before you dive in, though, maybe get a diagnostic check done. Could be a simple fix, but it's best to be sure. A workshop should be able to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a shop and turns out you were spot on. It was indeed a defective injection nozzle – dirty as hell. Replacement cost me 515€. Runs like a dream now!
