Volvo XC60 unstable idle problem

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Volvo XC60. When I start from cold, the idle is unstable, but once the engine is warm, everything works properly. My mechanic changed the diesel filter but the problem persists. I'm thinking of going to Volvo, but I'm afraid it'll be expensive. Has anyone encountered this problem before and could give me some advice? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello , On my 2015 Volvo xc60 diesel I have an unstable idle when the engine is cold. My mechanic has connected a case but does not see any error, he changed the diesel filter but it did not change anything. Thank you for your diagnostic answer.

Check the mass airflow sensor (MAF) for dirt or contamination, as it can affect the air-fuel mixture and cause unstable idle when cold. Cleaning it might help. Let me know if this resolves the issue or if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your reply, I have disassembled and cleaned the MAF and it seems to work. I will see how it is used, then I will come back to you. Thank you again.

Hello, I followed your advice, cleaned the MAF sensor, but the idle is still unstable when the engine is cold. Could this be caused by the EGR valve? Thank you in advance for your diagnosis.

Yes, a faulty or clogged EGR valve can cause unstable idle, especially when the engine is cold. Consider inspecting the EGR valve for carbon buildup and cleaning it if necessary. Let me know if this helps or if you have any further questions.
