Voyager Diesel Power Loss & High Fuel Consumption Fix

My Voyager is showing trouble lately with engine power loss and acting strange at idle. The onboard computer shows an error and I noticed much higher fuel consumption than usual. The diesel engine struggles to respond properly when accelerating. Could this be related to the fuel filter heater? Looking for advice before heading to a mechanic since my last repair experience wasnt great. Car details: 2006 Chrysler Voyager diesel, 22191 km on the clock.

Had similar symptoms on a 2009 Chrysler Grand Voyager with the diesel engine. The rough idle and power loss were identical issues. The fuel filter heater connector had corrosion buildup causing intermittent connection failure. The diagnosis revealed the fuel filter heater wasnt getting proper voltage, leading to poor fuel delivery in the fuel line system. This caused the engine management system to run rich, resulting in higher fuel consumption and sluggish acceleration. This required cleaning the connector pins and replacing the wiring harness section connected to the fuel filter heater. The repair was relatively straightforward but critical since a malfunctioning heater can allow fuel to gel in cold conditions, potentially causing complete fuel system blockage. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened, poor performance, rough idle, increased fuel consumption. Would recommend getting it checked soon as leaving it unaddressed can lead to more serious fuel system issues. The onboard computer error is likely pointing to the fuel filter heater circuit, which helps confirm the diagnosis.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the fuel filter heater issue. My Voyager showed identical symptoms and cold start problems too. My power loss was getting worse day by day before I finally got it sorted. Would be helpful to know what the total repair cost was in your case? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix? No more engine stalling or similar fuel system problems? The diesel engine performance issues can be really tricky to diagnose sometimes, but the filter replacement and wiring repair usually solves these common symptoms.

Really glad you also got the fuel filter heater issue fixed. After the repair to the cable connection and cleaning the corroded connector pins, my Voyager runs perfectly again. The total repair bill was 95€ which was reasonable considering the significant performance improvement. The rough idle completely disappeared and the diesel engine response is back to normal with no more power loss or engine stalling issues. Fuel consumption returned to standard levels too, which was a relief for the wallet. The repair done six months ago has proven reliable, no repeated fuel system problems or cold start issues since then. Having a properly functioning fuel filter heater makes a huge difference in the overall engine performance and fuel delivery. The investment was definitely worth it to prevent more severe fuel system damage down the line.

After reading about similar experiences, I took my Voyager to a trusted mechanic who diagnosed the exact same fuel filter heater issue. The repair cost came to 120€, including parts and labor. The mechanic found heavy corrosion on the connector pins and damaged wiring that was causing the fuel system problems. The cold start performance improved immediately after the fix. No more rough idle or power loss issues when accelerating. The repair took about 2 hours and the fuel consumption is now back to normal levels. Been driving for about a month since the repair and everything works perfectly. Such a relief to have the diesel engine running smoothly again without any fuel delivery problems. Definitely worth getting it fixed properly rather than letting it develop into a bigger issue.
