Thanks for explaining the ECU failure symptoms, this sounds exactly like what I experienced with my Chrysler. Was pretty worried when the engine light came on and the stalling started. The engine software reload fixed most issues but curious about costs. How much did you end up paying for the complete fix? Also wondering if youve had any recurring engine fault codes or starting problems since the repair?

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. Just had the work completed last week and happy to report the ECU issue was simpler than expected. The engine diagnostics revealed loose battery cable connections were causing intermittent power supply to the ECU, mimicking more serious engine control malfunction symptoms. The total repair came to 155€, which covered testing and fixing the battery connections. No engine software reload was actually needed. Since the repair, the engine stalling has completely stopped and the check engine light has stayed off. The starting is now consistently smooth with no fault codes appearing. This shows how proper engine diagnostics can save money, as what seemed like a complex ECU failure turned out to be a straightforward fix. The fuel injection and other systems are all working normally now. Would definitely recommend getting any similar symptoms checked quickly to avoid potential complications.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to share how this story ended. Took the car to a different mechanic who specializes in engine software and electrical issues. The diagnostic scan showed a partial ECU failure causing the fuel injection system to act up. The total repair ended up costing 890€ which included: Full ECU replacement, Engine software update, System diagnostics, Labor costs Been driving for about 2 weeks now and the engine light hasnt come back on. No more stalling issues and the car starts perfectly every time. Definitely learned my lesson about getting computer-related engine faults checked by specialists right away. While it wasnt cheap, the peace of mind knowing the car is running properly again was worth it. Really glad I asked here before getting it fixed, helped me understand what to expect at the garage. The symptoms matched exactly what was described and helped me explain the issue better to the mechanic.

Had similar symptoms with a 2006 Grand Voyager CRD. The engine turning over without starting, combined with engine stalling after a previous repair visit, strongly points to an ECU failure or damaged engine software. Bad battery connections can mimic ECU issues, but since you checked the battery, this could be more serious. In my case, the ECU had developed internal faults causing unusual engine stalling and starting problems. The diagnostic scan revealed corrupted engine software after a previous repair attempt. The fix required: Complete ECU diagnostic scan, Engine software reset and reload, Testing all ECU sensor connections, Verifying fuel injection timing These symptoms are typical for ECU-related problems in these models, especially after the 150000 KM mark. The unusual engine stalling combined with starting issues is a classic sign of ECU communication problems. A professional diagnostic check is needed, as continuing to drive with intermittent engine stalling could lead to unsafe situations and potential engine damage. This generally requires specialized equipment to properly diagnose and repair.
