Voyager Steering Controls Dead: Module or Wiring Issue

I need help with my 2010 Chrysler Voyager diesel. The steering wheel controls have completely stopped working, nothing happens when pressing any buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. The warning light is on and the diagnostic tool shows there's an error related to the steering controls. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I'm particularly interested if this points to a faulty control module in the steering column or if it's more likely an electrical fault elsewhere. Would appreciate hearing about repair solutions and rough cost estimates from those who've had this fixed.

I encountered a similar sensor issue on my 2008 Chrysler Grand Voyager diesel. Had pretty much identical symptoms, complete failure of the multifunction steering controls and a malfunction indicator light. After some basic troubleshooting attempts with reading the error codes, my workshop discovered a damaged cable connection in the steering column. The constant rotation of the steering wheel had worn down the wiring over time. The repair involved replacing the cable connection and checking the control module functionality. Total repair cost was 95€, which covered both parts and labor. The fix took about an hour and all steering wheel functions have worked perfectly since then. Before suggesting more specific advice, could you share: Have you noticed any intermittent issues before the complete failure? Does your steering wheel make any unusual clicking sounds when rotating? Did the problem occur suddenly or gradually? Have you had any previous repairs to the steering column? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if there might be a different underlying cause.

Last service was at 17002 KM and vehicle diagnostics confirmed the steering control module errors. The multifunction steering did have intermittent connectivity problems before complete failure. No clicking sounds from the steering column when turning. The issue developed gradually over about two weeks, starting with unusual button failures before complete loss of function. No previous steering-related repairs. Was planning to troubleshoot further but hearing about your similar cable connection issue is helpful. Does the 95€ repair typically include a warranty on the work?

Thanks for those additional details, it's sounding very similar to what I experienced with my Voyager. The gradual failure pattern and intermittent connectivity issues before total failure strongly suggest the same wiring problem I encountered. When the cable connection starts deteriorating, it typically shows these exact symptoms, sporadic malfunction before complete steering wheel control failure. In my case, the 95€ repair came with a 12-month warranty on both parts and labor. This is pretty standard for electrical fault repairs involving the steering control module. The warranty covered any potential issues with the new cable connection or if the malfunction indicator returned. Just to note, while my repair was straightforward, I recommend getting the workshop to perform a full diagnostic check of the control module once they replace the cable. In rare cases, prolonged wiring issues can cause additional damage to the module itself. Given your vehicle has a documented history of the steering control errors from the last service, this should make it easier for the workshop to pinpoint and verify the repair needed. The fact you have no clicking sounds is actually a good sign, it suggests the issue is isolated to the wiring rather than mechanical components in the steering column.

Thanks for sharing those repair details. That's really useful to know about the cable connection being the likely culprit rather than a more serious steering control module problem. Great that the fix could be relatively simple and affordable too. The warranty info is particularly helpful, good to hear these repairs typically come with 12-month coverage. I'll make sure to ask specifically about warranty terms when booking it in. Since my symptoms match what you experienced, especially the gradual failure pattern, I'm feeling more confident about getting this sorted. I'll request that full diagnostic check of the control module you mentioned too, just to rule out any additional steering column damage from the wiring fault. Will book it in this week and have them focus on checking those cable connections first. The timing works well since I'm due for a service anyway. Thanks again for sharing your experience with such a similar malfunction indicator issue.
