VW Arteon's Active Hood & Airbag Warnings After Service

After my last garage visit, my Arteon started showing concerning warning signs. The onboard computer displays an active hood fault message and the airbag warning is permanently lit. My car is a 2020 VW Arteon Hybrid with about 23000km. Has anyone experienced similar pedestrian safety system faults? The car seems to have triggered some impact sensors. Looking for advice before heading back to a mechanic, as my last experience wasnt great. Anyone know if this needs immediate attention or what the likely repair costs might be?

Having encountered a similar issue with my 2017 VW Passat GTE, I can relate to these warning signals. The crash detection system on these VW models uses multiple sensors, and a fault in the acceleration sensor can trigger both the active hood and airbag warnings. When my car displayed these symptoms, it turned out the front impact sensor wiring had deteriorated due to water exposure. The collision detection system was interpreting this as a potential system fault, causing the warnings to appear. This required immediate attention as it affects critical safety systems. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan of the safety system, Replacement of the front sensor module, Recalibration of the pedestrian protection system, Reset of the crash detection parameters This is not something to postpone, as compromised safety systems could affect both airbag deployment and pedestrian protection features. The active hood is designed to deploy in milliseconds during an incident, so proper sensor function is crucial. The repair took about 4 hours at the workshop, and while not the most complex fix, it requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly reset and calibrate the system.

Thanks for sharing those details about the sensor repair. I had similar warning lights pop up in my Arteon a few months back, turned out the hood latch sensor was misaligned after some routine maintenance. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was for your case? Also curious if youve had any car electronics issues since getting it fixed? My repair invoice was pretty steep and Im wondering if I overpaid.

Good news, I just had the car sensor system repaired last week, and the active hood fault warning is completely resolved now. The acceleration sensor was indeed defective, just as I suspected in my earlier post. The total came to 315€, which covered both the replacement part and recalibration of the crash detection system. Since the repair, all safety systems are working perfectly. No electronic glitches or warning lights have appeared. The pedestrian safety features are back to normal, and the car safety monitoring system shows everything is operating as intended. Your mention of a misaligned hood latch sensor is actually quite common. However, when multiple warnings appear together, it often points to a more complex issue with the crash detection components, as was the case with my car. The 315€ I paid seems reasonable for this type of specialized repair, considering it required both hardware replacement and complete system recalibration. These car sensor repairs need proper diagnostic equipment and expertise to ensure all safety features work correctly.

I finally got the issue sorted out. Took the car to a different mechanic who specializes in VW electronics, much better experience than my last garage visit. After running diagnostics, they found that water had damaged the impact sensor wiring, similar to what others mentioned. The system fault was triggering both the hood latch and airbag warnings. The repair cost came to 280€, which included replacing the damaged sensor and recalibrating the entire pedestrian safety system. The mechanic showed me the corroded wiring, definitely needed immediate attention. They completed everything in about 3 hours. All warning lights are now off and the car is running perfectly. No more system fault messages or safety warnings. Really glad I got this fixed promptly instead of waiting. The peace of mind knowing all safety systems are working properly is worth the cost.
