Thanks for sharing your experience. Going through something similar with my Arteon right now. The infotainment keeps freezing, and the phone connection drops constantly. Did your repair fix the issue completely? Just wondering how much you ended up paying for the module reprogramming since the steering controls and infotainment systems are pretty integrated in these models. My local shop quoted a surprisingly high price, but I want to make sure its in line with what others paid. Also, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since the repair? Sometimes these issues can be connected to the ignition system or other electrical components.

After getting the module reprogramming done, all the electrical faults cleared up completely. The fix was surprisingly affordable at just 45€ to resolve the incorrect device pairing issue. The steering wheel controls and entire infotainment system have been working flawlessly since then. No additional electrical problems have surfaced in the months following the repair. The communication between the phone module and main system is now stable, with no more unusual disconnects or system freezes. Looking back, it was worth getting it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than trying temporary workarounds. The transmission of data between devices and the vehicle now works exactly as designed. If your quote seems high, it might be worth checking with a shop that specializes in VW electrical systems, as they often have more efficient diagnostic processes. The function restrictions you mentioned are typically resolved once the system is properly reprogrammed. Just make sure whoever does the work can perform a complete system reflash, not just a basic reset.

Thanks for the feedback. I finally got this sorted out at a different shop that actually knew what they were doing with VW systems. The malfunction was exactly as described, a corrupted module causing communication issues. Total repair came to 90€ for diagnostic and reprogramming. More than the other shop but they did it right the first time. Whole process took about 2 hours while they ran the system reflash and cleared all the error codes. The technician showed me how the phone module was stuck in that boot loop mentioned earlier. Best part is everything works perfectly now, phone connects instantly, no more freezing screens, and all the steering controls are responsive again. No electrical issues have popped up since the fix. Should have just gone to these guys first instead of wasting time at the other place. Definitely learnt my lesson about finding shops with proper diagnostic equipment for these modern infotainment systems. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this.

Had the same issue with my 2015 VW Passat. The infotainment electrical faults started after a routine maintenance visit where they had to disconnect the battery. The root cause was a corrupted module that controls the phone pairing protocols. This required a complete reset and reprogramming of the infotainment control unit, not just a simple bluetooth reset. The stored error codes pointed to communication interruption between the phone module and the main system. When diagnosing, they found the module was stuck in a boot loop, preventing new device pairing. A full system reflash was necessary to restore proper functionality. This is a known issue affecting several VW models from that generation. This isnt a quick fix you can do at home. The repair requires dealer-level diagnostic equipment to properly reprogram the system and clear all associated error codes. While not a critical mechanical issue like engine or drivetrain problems, its still a complex repair that needs professional attention. After the proper repair, all connectivity functions should return to normal. Make sure the shop has experience with VW infotainment systems before letting them attempt the fix.
