VW Arteon GPS Signal Loss Caused by Faulty Antenna

Having trouble with my 2018 VW Arteon (1.8 TSI, 102500km). The navigation system completely lost GPS reception and there is an error code stored. Suspect it might be a faulty car GPS antenna. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their navigation system? What were the repair costs at your mechanic and was the GPS module actually the problem? Looking for advice before taking it to the shop since my last mechanic visit wasnt great.

I had the same satellite connection problems on my 2015 VW Passat 2.0 TSI. The GPS signal interference started gradually, first losing accuracy and then completely failing to connect. The car GPS antenna was indeed the root cause. Water had seeped into the antenna housing on the roof, corroding the connections. The repair involved replacing the entire GPS module and antenna assembly since they come as one unit. The job took about 2 hours at the shop since they needed to remove the headliner partially to access the antenna connections. This was a serious repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly test the car navigation system after installation. Most importantly, have the shop verify the error code first. Sometimes signal issues can be caused by a loose connection or damaged wiring harness, which would be a simpler fix. In my case, the diagnostic showed the GPS module was completely dead, leaving no option but replacement. Testing after repair confirmed perfect satellite reception and the issue never returned. Consider having them check the seal around the antenna mount to prevent future water damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Your GPS signal issues sound exactly like what I am dealing with on my Arteon. The gradual degradation before complete failure matches my symptoms perfectly. Did you remember the total repair cost for the GPS module and antenna replacement? Also curious if you have encountered any other navigation-related problems since getting it fixed. Planning to take mine to the shop next week and trying to budget accordingly.

Can confirm my GPS antenna repair ended up costing 200€ total, including parts and labor. The car navigation system has worked flawlessly since the fix six months ago, with zero signal interference issues. The mechanics properly sealed the new GPS module during installation, which should prevent future water damage. The satellite reception is actually better than when the car was new, I get instant position fixes now where before there was sometimes a delay. Looking back, it was definitely worth fixing rather than trying workarounds. The car GPS functionality is fully restored and I can rely on the navigation system again without any signal drops or accuracy problems. Makes sense to get yours checked soon before any potential water damage spreads to other components. The symptoms you describe are nearly identical to what I experienced before the repair.

Taking it to the shop yesterday was definitely the right call based on your experience. The mechanic confirmed your diagnosis, it was indeed a faulty GPS module causing the satellite connection problems. Total repair came to 180€, slightly less than yours. They found some minor corrosion around the antenna housing but caught it before serious damage occurred. The car electronics specialist completed the work in about 90 minutes. Just picked up the car this morning and the navigation system is working perfectly now. Getting strong GPS signals even in areas where it used to struggle. Really glad I addressed this early rather than waiting for potential water damage to spread. The repair shop also applied additional sealant around the antenna mount as a preventive measure. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped confirm I was on the right track with the diagnosis.
