VW Arteon Hit By Major Transmission Control Issues

Having serious transmission problems with my 2022 VW Arteon Hybrid that started recently. The transmission control seems to be malfunctioning, paddle shifters are unresponsive, gear changes are rough with grinding sounds, and the gearbox occasionally slips. The car has gone into emergency mode several times, and the diagnostic shows error codes. I suspect a faulty transmission control unit might be the cause. Has anyone dealt with similar electronic issues on their Arteon? Particularly interested in hearing about repair experiences and how your workshop resolved these transmission diagnosis problems. Would appreciate details about repair costs and time needed for fixes. Did you need a full TCU replacement or was there another solution?

I had a very similar transmission control issue with my 2020 VW Passat GTE Hybrid. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I initially thought it might be a simple software update, but the electronic issues turned out to be more complex. The symptoms matched yours exactly, unresponsive paddle shifters, rough gear changes, and the gearbox going into limp mode. After running transmission diagnosis, the workshop confirmed the transmission control module was failing. They found multiple error codes pointing to a defective control unit. The repair involved a complete replacement of the control module, followed by proper programming and adaptation. Total repair time was about 2 days, and the final cost came to 1000€ including parts and labor. Since the fix, the transmission has worked flawlessly with smooth gear changes and no more emergency mode incidents. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Current mileage on your Arteon, When these gearbox issues first started, Whether any transmission service work was done previously, What specific error codes your diagnostic showed This information would help determine if your situation requires similar treatment or if there might be other factors involved.

Thanks for detailing your experience. Just had my 30,000km service last month, currently at 36389km. The transmission error codes showing up on my car computer match what you described. The gearbox issues surfaced about 2 weeks ago, starting with minor hesitation during gear changes before developing into the more serious transmission problems I mentioned. No previous transmission repair work has been done since its new. That repair cost seems reasonable if it resolves all the transmission control issues. Good to hear the fix was successful in your case. Will contact the workshop to schedule a proper transmission diagnosis.

Thanks for the additional details about your Arteon. Based on my experience with the same transmission control issues on my Passat GTE, the timing and progression of your symptoms strongly suggest a similar electronic control module failure. The fact that these gearbox issues started shortly after your service is interesting. While routine maintenance typically doesnt trigger transmission control problems, its worth having the workshop check if any updates or work done during the service might have affected the automotive ECU system. At your mileage range, transmission control unit failures are uncommon but not unheard of. My vehicle had around 42000km when the electronic issues surfaced. The workshop identified that moisture infiltration had damaged some components in the control module, leading to the erratic gearbox behavior. Since your vehicle is still relatively new, its worth checking if this repair might be covered under warranty. The transmission diagnosis and repair process should be straightforward since the symptoms are well-documented. Just ensure the workshop has experience with hybrid transmission systems, as they require specific diagnostic tools and expertise. Keep us updated on what the workshop finds during their gearbox inspection.

My transmission problem has been resolved, and I wanted to share the outcome in case others experience similar issues. After taking it to the workshop, their transmission diagnosis confirmed what you suggested, a faulty transmission control unit. The automatic gearbox repair took 3 days total, mainly because they had to order the replacement part. Final cost was 1150€, slightly more than your case but still reasonable. They found moisture damage in the control module, exactly like your situation. The car computer is now showing no error codes, and the transmission problems are completely fixed. Gear changes are smooth again, paddle shifters work perfectly, and no more emergency mode warnings. The workshop also applied the latest software updates to prevent similar electronic issues. Really glad I took action quickly before the transmission control failure could cause more extensive damage. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me understand what to expect from the repair process.
