VW Arteon HVAC System Dead, Blower Motor Failure Alert

Last service was at 50970km in March, and I can tell you that back then the air conditioning and fan speed controller worked perfectly fine. The error code showing is P0073 and I hear absolutely no sound when adjusting the fan settings. The climate control panel lights are still functioning normally, which makes me think the blower motor itself might be the culprit rather than an electrical issue. Currently looking for estimates from workshops, hoping the repair costs are similar to what you experienced. The complete lack of air flow is really becoming an issue during my daily commute. Thank you for sharing the repair process. This helps me understand what to expect when I take it in.

Thanks for providing those additional details, they match exactly what I experienced with my Passat before the repair. The P0073 code, combined with the completely silent fan speed controller and working panel lights, strongly suggests a failed blower motor. This matches the failure pattern I encountered at around 55000km. Based on my repair experience, here are some points that could save you time and money: Request the workshop to specifically check the blower motor resistance first, The climate control panel is working, so likely no need to replace the entire HVAC system, Electrical wiring connections to the motor should be inspected before replacement, Fan speed controller might need testing but rarely needs replacement in these cases My final repair bill was 365€, but prices can vary. The most expensive part was the blower motor itself at around 180€. Labor costs depend on how quickly they can access the component through the dashboard. The good news is that since my repair last summer, the new blower motor has worked flawlessly with no issues in the climate control system.

Following up to let you know I took the car to a workshop today based on the advice received. They confirmed it is indeed the blower motor that failed, exactly as suggested. The diagnosis matches perfectly, failed motor but intact electrical wiring and fan speed controller. They quoted 395€ for the complete repair including parts and labor, which is pretty close to the cost mentioned. Good to know this is within the normal price range. The technician also mentioned they would check all the connections while doing the replacement. They can fit me in next week for the repair. Estimated completion time is 3-4 hours, mainly due to the dashboard access needed. Really appreciate the detailed information about the repair process, helped me understand exactly what I'm paying for. Will update once the repair is done, but feeling much more confident now about the whole situation. Having working air conditioning again will definitely make the daily commute more bearable.

I had a similar issue with my 2017 VW Passat last summer. Having worked on several VW climate control systems, I can share some relevant experience. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened with my car, complete failure of the heater fan and air circulation system. After checking fuses like you did, my blower motor turned out to be completely dead. The repair process involved: Complete diagnosis of the electrical wiring system, Removal of the glove box for access, Replacement of the blower motor, Testing of the new climate control unit Total cost was 365€ including parts and labor. The workshop completed everything in about 3 hours. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you provide: Current mileage on your Arteon, Exact error code showing, Whether you hear any noise when changing fan speeds, If the climate control panel lights still work The blower motor failure is fairly common in this VW platform, but checking these details would help confirm if your issue matches what I experienced. With proper diagnosis, this should be a straightforward fix at a qualified workshop. The most challenging part is usually accessing the blower motor assembly behind the dashboard.
