VW Arteon Turn Signal Problems: Bulbs & Relay Issues
Summary of the thread
The 2017 VW Arteon is experiencing turn signal issues, with the dashboard indicator blinking unusually fast and error messages appearing. The problem is suspected to be due to a faulty bulb or flasher relay. Upon inspection, a blown passenger side front bulb was identified as the likely cause, as the rapid blinking occurs only when signaling right. The recommended solution is to replace the bulb with an OEM specification to resolve the issue, while also checking for socket corrosion. If the problem persists, further investigation into wiring connections may be necessary.

Latest service done at 82180km, just 2 weeks ago. After checking both front and rear turn signals myself, I found the passenger side front bulb has blown. The rapid blinking occurs only when signaling right. The left turn indicator works normally with proper blinking speed. No other electrical issues noticed. The turn indicator fault seems isolated to just that one side. I understand now why the dashboard warning appears, it is indicating a bulb replacement is needed. Will attempt a signal lamp replacement before considering more complex repairs. Thanks for mentioning the loose connection possibility. If a broken lens or wiring issue is found during the bulb replacement, I will have it checked professionally rather than risk further electrical problems.

Glad to hear you narrowed down the issue to the passenger side front bulb. Your symptoms perfectly match my experience, the rapid blinking on just one side is exactly how my Passat behaved when the bulb failed. Since your service was recent, the bulb failure is likely unrelated. Turn signal bulbs can fail suddenly even on well-maintained vehicles. The automotive lighting system is designed to increase the blinking frequency when a bulb burns out, which makes troubleshooting these electrical faults much easier. A bulb replacement should resolve both the rapid indicator light blinking and clear the error message. Just ensure you get the correct bulb specification, using the wrong type can cause additional electrical system problems. Quick tips for the repair: Check the bulb socket for corrosion while replacing, Test both turn signals after installation, Clear the error codes after fixing, Verify normal blinking speed is restored The repair should be straightforward since you isolated the fault to a single bulb. If the rapid blinking continues after replacement, then investigating the wiring connections would be the next step, similar to what my case required.

Thanks for the detailed information. Your diagnosis makes sense and matches what I found. The fast blinking only on the right side points clearly to the blown front bulb being the culprit. Good tip about checking the socket during replacement, I will take a close look for any corrosion or damage while I have it open. I plan to get an OEM specification bulb tomorrow to ensure compatibility and avoid any electrical system complications. The instrument cluster warning and rapid indicator light blinking should resolve once I complete the turn signal lamp replacement. Will make sure to test thoroughly and clear those error codes afterward. If the rapid blinking continues even with a new bulb, I will follow your advice and have a professional check the wiring connections. But given the symptoms are isolated to just that one turn signal, a simple broken lens or bulb replacement should get everything working normally again. Really appreciate the guidance. This helped confirm my suspicions and gave me confidence to tackle the repair myself before considering more expensive options.

Had a very similar electrical fault on my VW Passat 2015. The indicator light symptoms match exactly what you described, that rapid blinking is often a telltale sign of connection problems in the automotive lighting system. After some basic troubleshooting attempts, took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a loose plug connection at the turn signal assembly. The cable had worked itself loose over time, causing intermittent contact. They cleaned the connection points and properly secured the wiring harness. Total repair cost was 95€ including diagnostics. The rapid blinking is actually a built-in feature to alert you when there is a problem with the turn signal system. Before spending money at a shop, you might want to check if all lamp bulbs are working correctly, as a burned out bulb can cause similar symptoms. Would help to know: Are both left and right indicators affected? Does this happen only on front or rear lights? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Does the rapid blinking occur consistently or intermittently? Once you share these details, might be able to provide more specific guidance based on what I learned from my experience.
