Really appreciate the detailed info. Had no idea the electronic stability module could trigger so many related issues. My steering angle sensor is also showing some weird behavior now that you mention it. Was the repair process smooth once they identified the root cause? My local mechanic seems unsure about tackling the electronic control systems. Looking at your repair list, it sounds like a specialist job. Wonder if you remember what the total cost came out to? Also, has everything worked perfectly since the fix or have you noticed any other quirks with the ABS or stability systems?

After getting the repairs done, I can confirm everything works flawlessly now. The lateral acceleration sensor fault was completely resolved after replacing the affected control unit. The vehicle stability system, ABS, and traction control are all functioning as they should. The total cost came to 1000€ for the control unit replacement and recalibration. While it wasnt cheap, having a properly functioning stability system is worth the investment for safety reasons. The steering angle sensor issues you mentioned often tie into these problems, as theyre all part of the same control network. I definitely recommend finding a specialist with experience in VW electronic systems. The repair process was straightforward once the correct diagnosis was made, but it requires specific diagnostic equipment and expertise to properly calibrate these systems. Regular repair shops often lack the tools needed for proper yaw rate sensor adjustment and system testing. The wheel alignment was also checked as part of the service since its crucial for the stability system to work correctly. Since the fix, every safety system has worked perfectly with no warning lights or quirks.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got it sorted at a specialized VW shop. The repair journey was quite different from my regular mechanic experience. The new shop immediately spotted issues my previous mechanic missed. Their diagnostic equipment picked up problems with both the lateral sensor and steering angle calibration. The whole stability system needed reprogramming after they replaced the faulty control module. Total cost hit 1200€ but at least all the warning lights are off now. The traction control and ABS are working properly again. Even noticed the car handles better in corners, probably due to the wheel alignment they did as part of the service. Definitely learned my lesson about using specialized shops for electronic issues. Regular mechanics are great for basic repairs, but when safety systems are involved, its worth paying extra for proper diagnostic equipment and expertise. For anyone facing similar issues, get it checked right away. Driving without these safety systems working properly isnt worth the risk.

Had the same issue with my 2003 VW Golf GTI. The lateral sensor malfunction triggered multiple system failures affecting the ABS, vehicle stability control, and traction control simultaneously. The root cause was a defective control unit that miscommunicated with the lateral acceleration sensor. This caused the entire stability management system to shut down as a safety measure. The vehicle stability system relies heavily on accurate readings from this sensor to maintain proper control during cornering and emergency maneuvers. The fix required: Complete diagnostic testing of the ABS control module, Replacement of the faulty control unit, Recalibration of the yaw rate sensor, Full system reset and wheel alignment check This was a serious repair job requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. The vehicle stability system is a critical safety component, so driving without it functioning properly puts you at risk, especially in adverse conditions. Would recommend having this addressed at a shop with VW-specific diagnostic capabilities, as generic scanners often miss the detailed fault codes needed for proper diagnosis.
