VW Bora Blower Motor Failure & Climate Control Fix

Just had the car inspected during the last service at 58742km. Based on the symptoms described, I can confirm I am experiencing a similar issue. The climate control display remains functional but without any response when adjusting settings. No error messages appear on the dashboard. The problem developed suddenly after a particularly humid week. No unusual smells from the vents, which makes me think the HVAC sensor system might be the culprit rather than a mechanical blower issue. Your repair cost seems reasonable. Was the corroded plug connector located near the cabin air sensor or closer to the main climate control unit? This information would help when I take it to the workshop.

Thanks for providing those details about your Bora. The corroded connector in my Golf was actually located near the air quality sensor assembly, just behind the glove compartment area, very similar to your model. The sudden failure after humid weather is quite telling, as moisture tends to accelerate corrosion in these connector spots. Since your symptoms match mine, working display but no blower response, I strongly suspect you are dealing with the same connection issue rather than a full AUC sensor failure. The repair approach that worked on my Golf should be applicable to your Bora since they share the same auto recirculation system architecture. The technician first tested the air conditioning sensor connections before replacing the corroded plug. The whole air quality sensor assembly didnt need replacement, which kept the cost down. One tip from my experience: have them check the ventilation system drain lines while they are accessing that area. Water buildup from clogged drains can cause these connector issues to reoccur. The workshop charged me an extra 25€ for this preventive check, but it was worth it.

I appreciate all the detailed feedback. The situation with your Golf does sound identical to what Im experiencing with my Bora, right down to the timing after humid weather. Its reassuring to know this might just be a connector issue rather than a complete air quality sensor failure. Based on what youve shared, Ill ask the workshop to specifically check the connector near the sensor assembly behind the glove box. A total repair cost around 120€ including the drain line inspection seems quite reasonable. The climate control display on mine is still working without any error messages, just like in your case. This really confirms we are likely dealing with the same issue. Ill have them inspect the entire auto recirculation system while theyre at it, but focusing first on those connectors near the air conditioning sensor area. Ill schedule the repair next week since the lack of proper ventilation is becoming quite uncomfortable. Thanks for the detailed explanation of your repair experience, its been really helpful in understanding what to expect.

I had a similar issue with my 2004 VW Golf TDI last year. Having some experience with VW climate control systems, I can share what worked for me. The symptoms were identical, complete blower failure and climate control malfunction. My AUC sensor (automatic air recirculation) was functioning, but the main issue was traced to a damaged wiring connection to the cabin air sensor unit. The repair involved: Testing the electrical connections, Replacing a corroded plug connector, Basic system reset Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The workshop completed everything in about 1 hour. Before jumping to conclusions about your Bora, could you share: Does the climate control display still work? Are you getting any error messages? Did the problem start gradually or suddenly? Have you noticed any unusual odors from the ventilation system? The air quality sensor system in these VW models is pretty similar, but knowing these details would help identify if you are facing the same connector issue or something different with your climate control setup.
