Thanks for sharing that fuel system fix. My car had nearly identical issues with the faulty sensor and irregular readings on the car dashboard. Ended up getting it repaired about 3 months ago and the stalling finally stopped. Just wondering, do you recall roughly how much you paid for the complete fuel tank sender replacement? Also, has everything stayed working properly since the repair? My fuel gauge has been accurate but I keep checking it obsessively since the fix.

Following up on my earlier post about the VW Passat fuel sender unit issue, great to hear you got yours fixed too. After my repair, everything has worked flawlessly for over a year now. The faulty sensor replacement completely resolved the stalling and irregular fuel gauge readings. The total cost for my fuel sender unit repair included 52€ for fixing a blown fuse discovered during diagnosis, plus around 400€ for the sender unit replacement labor and parts. The car electronics have been reliable since then, with no recurring fuel level sensor problems. You can stop worrying about checking the gauge constantly. Once the car sensor system is properly repaired, these fuel system issues rarely come back. My fuel readings have stayed accurate and consistent through all seasons and driving conditions. Keep monitoring your check engine light as a general practice, but the obsessive gauge checking isnt necessary anymore. A properly installed sender unit should give you years of trouble-free service.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got around to having this fixed at a reputable shop last week. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the fuel sender unit causing all the problems. They had to drop the tank which took several hours, but the car electronics are all working perfectly now. Total bill came to 480€ including parts and labor. More than I hoped but worth it to have the stalling and check engine light fully resolved. The fuel level sensor is giving accurate readings and the car runs smoothly at idle. No more anxiety about unexpected stalling at traffic lights. The shop also cleaned the entire fuel system while they had it apart, which probably helped. Really glad I got a proper diagnosis and repair rather than continuing to throw parts at it. The car dashboard readings are all normal now and it feels like a different vehicle. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction with this fuel system issue.

Had the same issue with my 2007 VW Passat last season. The symptoms match exactly, stalling at idle and illuminated check engine light, triggered by fuel level sensor malfunction. Initially checked the fuse box under the steering wheel, specifically the fuel pump fuse. This is a quick first diagnostic step for fuel system issues. The fuse was intact, leading to deeper investigation. The real problem turned out to be the complete fuel sender unit inside the tank. The fuel gauge was showing incorrect readings, and the faulty level sensor was causing irregular fuel delivery. This explained both the stalling and check engine light. The repair required dropping the fuel tank to replace the entire sender assembly. While a complex job, it resolved all symptoms: the stalling stopped, fuel gauge worked properly again, and the check engine light cleared permanently. This is considered a serious repair since it involves fuel system components and requires partial fuel system dismantling. If your symptoms match, strongly suggest having a certified technician inspect the complete fuel sender unit rather than just replacing individual sensors. The warning signs you describe, particularly the combination of stalling and sensor codes, strongly indicate a failing sender unit rather than just a loose connection or single bad sensor.
