Thanks for sharing your experience. The symptoms sound exactly like what Im dealing with, same gradual decline in vehicle electronics performance. Really helps to know it was the antenna amplifier in your case. Did you remember roughly what the total cost was for fixing the poor signal issue? Also curious if youve had any other problems with the radio or antenna booster since the repair? Planning to take mine to a specialist workshop but want to have a ballpark figure in mind before I go.

Just got the repair done last week actually, total cost was 255€ for fixing the antenna ground issue and related components. The vehicle electronics are working perfectly now with crystal clear reception. Like yours, my radio signal kept getting worse over time, but the antenna amplifier replacement solved it completely. The specialist confirmed it was a common failure point on these VW models. They also checked all surrounding components while doing the repair to prevent future issues. Zero problems since the fix, all stations come in clear now and the error message is gone. The shop did a thorough job testing the signal strength after installation. If your symptoms match what I experienced, you should expect similar repair costs and results with a proper antenna booster replacement. For this kind of vehicle electronics work, the price was fair considering the specialized labor and parts involved. The clear reception now makes it worth every cent compared to the frustration of poor signal quality before.

Thanks for the input. Just got back from the shop and wanted to share how it went. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the antenna amplifier causing the static noise and FM signal problems, just like suggested here. Total repair came to 290€ including parts and labor. The specialist spent about 2.5 hours on it, thoroughly checking all vehicle electronics and connections. They found some corrosion around the antenna base that also needed addressing. Really glad I went to a VW-specific shop based on the advice here. They knew exactly what to look for and had the right diagnostic equipment. The signal strength is perfect now, no more static or error messages. Radio works like new again. Definitely worth paying a bit more for someone who knows these systems well. Would have wasted time and money at a general garage trying to diagnose the car radio issues. Going to keep their number for any future electrical problems.

Had the same antenna defective error on my 2008 VW Jetta last winter. The poor signal started gradually, first static noise on FM stations, then complete signal loss, and finally the infotainment system showed the error message. The issue was a failed antenna amplifier module, common in VW models from that era. After diagnosis, the repair involved replacing both the antenna booster and the main antenna mast since corrosion had spread between components. Not a serious mechanical issue, but definitely requires proper tools and expertise to fix correctly. The repair process typically includes: Testing antenna connections, Scanning for shorts in the wiring, Replacing the amplifier module, Installing new antenna components, Recoding the radio module Would recommend finding a shop specializing in VW electrical systems rather than a general mechanic. The car radio system in these models is integrated with other electronic components, so proper diagnostic equipment is essential. The repair took about 3 hours in total, including testing. This is a known weak point in VW models from that period, but once fixed properly, the system should work reliably again.
