VW Caddy ABS & Stability Warnings: Sensor Fault Alert

Need advice, Failed ABS and vehicle stability warning. Anyone experienced something similar with their Caddy? My 2014 VW Caddy gas engine (30201km) started showing ABS warning lights, along with electronic stability control malfunctions. The garage found some error codes, and mentioned a possible lateral acceleration sensor issue. My previous mechanic wasnt too trustworthy, so looking for recommendations on common causes and repair costs before taking it to another shop. Any input appreciated.

I faced similar warnings on my 2011 VW Golf GTI. The lateral sensor malfunction triggered both ABS and stability control warnings. A safety warning like this requires immediate attention since it affects vehicle stability and braking performance. The issue turned out to be more complex than initially diagnosed. The workshop found that moisture had damaged the control unit, affecting both the yaw rate measurements and electronic control systems. This explained the multiple warning lights, as these systems are interconnected. The repair involved replacing the affected control unit and recalibrating the entire stability management system. It was a serious repair that took two full days at the workshop, as they needed to ensure all electronic control modules were communicating correctly. Worth noting that driving with faulty ABS and stability systems poses significant safety risks, especially in emergency braking situations or when cornering at speed. These warnings should never be ignored, regardless of the potential repair costs. The symptoms you describe closely match what I experienced, particularly the combination of ABS and stability warnings. Having the lateral sensor tested should be the first diagnostic step.

Thanks for sharing your GTI experience. My Caddy showed similar symptoms, traction control and ABS warnings lighting up together. Fixed mine last month after the diagnostic scan revealed a faulty sensor unit. Would you mind sharing what the final repair cost was at your workshop? Also curious if youve had any electronic stability issues since the control unit replacement? Want to compare notes since these repairs can vary quite a bit in complexity. My steering angle sensor also needed recalibration during the fix.

Thanks for asking about the costs. After getting the lateral sensor fault fixed last month, everything has worked perfectly with no electronic stability issues whatsoever. The total bill came to 1000€ for replacing the affected control unit and doing all necessary recalibration work. The comprehensive diagnostic scan helped identify the exact problem this time. The workshop had to perform a complete electronic control system reset after installing the new unit. While pricey, having a properly working stability system and ABS is crucial for safety. The steering angle recalibration you mentioned was also part of my repair process. Its common to need this adjustment when working on these interconnected electronic systems. The lateral acceleration sensor now provides accurate readings to the stability control module, which has completely resolved the warning lights. Based on both our experiences, it seems these sensor and control unit issues are relatively common on VW models from that era. At least when fixed properly, they tend to stay fixed without recurring problems.

Thanks for the input. After dealing with this headache, I wanted to share how it all worked out. Took my Caddy to a certified VW workshop last month. They ran a full diagnostic scan that spotted both the faulty lateral sensor and some wiring issues affecting the wheel alignment sensors. The electronic stability system was basically getting confused from bad signal inputs. Labor took about 6 hours total, they replaced the defective sensor unit, rewired the connections, and did a complete recalibration of the yaw rate sensors and vehicle stability systems. Bill came to 850€ including parts and labor. Happy to report zero warning lights since the repair. The stability control and ABS are working perfectly now. Definitely worth getting it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than driving around with compromised safety systems. The mechanic showed me the old corroded sensor which explained why multiple systems were acting up. Good to understand what was actually wrong after my previous shop kept giving vague explanations.
