VW Caddy Infotainment System Dead, Complete Failure

A few months ago I had a similar electrical fault with my 1998 VW Golf, the infotainment system suddenly showed error codes and refused to pair with any devices. After some basic troubleshooting failed, I brought it to a workshop specializing in electrical faults and diagnostics. The technician found that the Bluetooth control module had a corrupted pairing memory, causing connectivity issues across the entire infotainment system. They performed a complete reset and reconfiguration of the module, which resolved the problem. The total repair cost was 45€ and took about an hour. Before suggesting specific fixes for your Caddy, it would help to know: What error codes are showing up? Did this start happening suddenly or gradually? Have you recently updated your phone or made any changes to the infotainment settings? Does the system power on normally or is it completely unresponsive? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with the corrupted pairing memory or if its something else affecting the electrical system.

Had my latest service just 2 weeks ago at 115775km. After trying the suggestions, I still get the same error codes. The system died suddenly mid-drive without any warning signs. It powers on but shows ERR-304 and ERR-512. No changes made to phone or settings before this happened. The infotainment boots up but freezes after about 20 seconds. The electrical faults seem isolated to just the infotainment since all other systems work fine, even the central locking and power windows which run on the same circuit. Will check if the workshop you mentioned can handle VW electronics specifically, seems like we might be dealing with the same root cause.

Good to hear back about your Caddy issue. Based on those specific error codes and symptoms, it does sound nearly identical to what I experienced with my Golf. ERR-304 typically indicates a communication fault within the infotainment system, while ERR-512 often points to memory corruption, exactly what my diagnostic revealed. The freezing after boot is particularly telling, this matches the behavior my system showed before the repair. Since your other electrical systems are working normally, this reinforces my suspicion that its isolated to the Bluetooth control module rather than a broader electrical or transmission issue in the vehicle. The timing after your service is interesting, sometimes these modules can act up after power interruptions, which often happen during routine maintenance. My repair involved a complete reset of the module memory banks and recalibration of the communication protocols. The fact that it died suddenly mid-drive also mirrors my experience. Just be sure the workshop has access to the VW-specific diagnostic tools, general scanners sometimes miss these specialized module issues. The repair process should be similar to what worked on my Golf, given how closely the systems match between these models. Let us know what the diagnostic reveals, if its the same issue, you should be looking at a straightforward module reset and reconfiguration like I had done.

Thanks for all the responses on my Caddy issue. Quick update, took it to a specialist workshop today and you were spot on. The technician confirmed it was the Bluetooth module causing the infotainment system to malfunction. They performed a complete reset and recalibrated the system, exactly as suggested. Total cost came to 50€ and took about 90 minutes. The system now boots perfectly and connects to my phone without any error codes. They also checked the ignition system and engine light while it was in, just to rule out any related electrical issues that might have triggered the fault. Really grateful for pointing me in the right direction, saved me from potentially replacing the entire unit. Will definitely keep an eye on the system during future services to prevent any similar issues from popping up again.
