VW Caddy Power Windows Dead, Regulator Fix Guide

My power windows suddenly stopped working on my 2006 VW Caddy (1.6L gas, 139k km). The car shows an error code related to the windows. A mechanic previously told me its likely the window regulator needs replacement, but I got poor service there before. Has anyone dealt with similar window control issues on their Caddy? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on what to check before visiting another shop.

I experienced similar window control issues on my 2009 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The symptoms matched exactly, complete window failure and error codes. Initially thought it was the window regulator, but the automotive repair revealed a failing window motor and damaged wiring in the door control module. The window motor had worn out contacts causing intermittent operation before complete failure. During repair, the technician found moisture had entered the door panel, corroding the electrical connections. The fix required replacing both the regulator motor assembly and rewiring the door control module. This is typically a serious repair requiring door panel removal and electrical testing. A competent shop needs specialized diagnostic tools to properly identify if its the window regulator, motor, or control module causing the issue. Quick checks before visiting a shop: Listen for motor noise when pressing switches, Check fuses related to power windows, Try operating all windows from both driver and passenger switches, Inspect visible wiring in door jamb for damage The window regulator system in VW models from this era commonly develops these issues around 130-150k km, especially if exposed to moisture or frequent use.

Thanks for the detailed response regarding the window issues. After reading about your Golf repair, it sounds very similar to my Caddy problem. When I tried the window controls today I noticed the same symptoms with no motor noise. Did the window track also need replacement along with the regulator motor in your case? I want to budget properly before heading to a shop. Would really appreciate knowing the final repair cost for your window control system fix and if youve had any recurring issues since the repair. Also good tip about checking the door jamb wiring, will definitely inspect that first.

Had my window mechanism fully repaired last week after dealing with those frustrating issues. The window track was actually fine in my Golf, turned out the faulty window regulator was the main culprit along with the power window switch. Total repair came to 200€ for parts and labor, which included testing the electrical system. The car window has been working flawlessly since the fix, smooth operation and no more error codes. My advice paid off about checking the door jamb wiring first, as it helped the mechanic quickly diagnose the exact problem without wasting time on unnecessary parts replacement. The automotive repair shop confirmed these window control issues are pretty standard on VWs of our age. They mentioned proper cleaning and lubrication of the window mechanism during repair helps prevent future problems. Lucky for me the door panel only needed basic service, no additional parts beyond the regulator and switch.

After checking the door jamb wiring as suggested, I took my Caddy to a different repair shop yesterday. The mechanic found the window regulator motor had completely seized, but fortunately the window track was still in good condition. No corrosion or moisture damage like in your case. The total repair came to 180€ including labor and the new window mechanism parts. Much more reasonable than the previous shop's quote. The mechanic also cleaned and lubricated all the window components while the door panel was off. Now the window control works perfectly, no more error codes or sticking. The smooth operation makes such a difference. Really glad I asked here first and knew what to look for. The tips about checking for motor noise and wiring helped me better understand the problem when talking to the mechanic. Will definitely keep an eye on the window controls going forward and address any issues early before complete failure happens again. Thanks again for sharing your experience, helped me avoid unnecessary repairs and costs.
