VW Caddy Washer System Failure: No Fluid Output

Having trouble with my 2021 VW Caddy washer system. When pressing the stalk, nothing happens, no fluid coming out at all. After checking the reservoir I noticed its full, but neither the windshield washer nor the headlight cleaning system works. Fuses look good too. The pump makes no sound when activated. Has anyone experienced a similar malfunction and got it fixed? Would really like to know what the repair shop found and how they solved it. Did it turn out to be the pump, wiring, or something else? Could the headlight xenon cleaning system be connected to this issue? Please share your repair experiences.

Had this exact same issue with my 2019 VW Touran last winter. With some basic car maintenance experience, I first checked all the obvious things like you did, fluid levels and fuses. The symptoms were identical, no response from either the windshield washer or the headlight cleaning system. No pump sound at all. After a thorough system check, the workshop found that the cable connection to the washer pump had corroded and partially detached. The constant exposure to moisture had damaged the electrical contacts. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness section and securing new connections to the pump. Total cost was 165€ including parts and labor. Since the fix, both the regular washer and xenon headlight cleaning systems work perfectly. Before suggesting specific fixes though, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical issues? When did the malfunction first occur? Does your washer system have a history of previous repairs? What weather conditions is your car typically exposed to? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or might be something different.

Thanks for the feedback. After seeing the workshop, they diagnosed a faulty pump motor as the root cause. Turns out a leak from a cracked pump housing was causing an electrical short. The washer fluid had seeped into the motor assembly. Labor and parts came to 220€ total. They replaced the complete pump unit plus cleaned the surrounding area that had washer fluid residue. All systems now work properly again. My VW is still under the original warranty with 35738km on the clock and regular service intervals maintained. Good to have this sorted before winter arrives. For others with similar issues, the workshop mentioned these pump failures are fairly common. The early warning sign is often a faint buzzing before complete malfunction occurs.

That's interesting about the pump failure, exactly what my mechanic warned me about during my repair. Though in my case the wiring was the culprit, he mentioned the pump housing cracks are a known fault point in these VW washer systems. Good catch getting it fixed under warranty. My repair ended up being more expensive since my Touran was just outside the warranty period. The clog in the system from the dried washer fluid residue took extra cleaning time too. The LED warning light on my dash actually started flickering intermittently before the system failed completely. Worth noting for others that any unusual system behavior should be checked promptly to avoid more extensive damage. When they cleaned my system, they also found traces of debris around the pump area. Regular maintenance of the washer system definitely helps prevent these issues. Since the repair, I've made it a point to run the cleaning system at least weekly to keep everything flowing properly.

Based on the first reply I got and the workshop findings, I can share what happened with my issue. The diagnosis showed a faulty pump motor caused by a cracked housing that let washer fluid leak into the electrical components. This created a short in the motor assembly. The total repair cost was 220€ for parts and labor. They installed a new pump unit and cleaned all the areas affected by the leaked fluid. Both the windshield washer and headlight cleaning systems are now working perfectly. My VW still has the original warranty with 35738km on the clock and all regular services done on time. Getting this fixed before winter was important. For anyone facing similar problems, the workshop mentioned these pump failures happen quite often. Watch out for a faint buzzing sound from the system before complete malfunction occurs. The xenon headlight cleaning system typically stops working at the same time since it uses the same pump. Looking back, I should have noticed the slight changes in the pump sound earlier. But at least the warranty covered the repair and the hose connections were all checked during the service too.
