VW Crafter Electric Window Failure: All Doors Affected

Having trouble with power windows in my 2021 VW Crafter Electric. The window mechanism stopped working completely on all doors. The error code is stored in the system memory. I suspect the window regulator could be faulty, but want to confirm before replacing parts. Has anyone experienced similar issues and had them fixed? What did the workshop diagnose as the root cause and what was the repair solution? I am particularly interested in repair costs and time needed for the fix.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2019 VW ID.3 Electric, I can share my experience as someone with moderate automotive repair knowledge. The symptoms were identical, complete window failure across all doors. After checking the window control module, the workshop diagnosed a faulty main power window switch in the driver door panel. The window regulator and window track were actually fine, which saved significant costs. The repair involved: Removing the door panel, Testing the electrical connections, Replacing the defective switch assembly, Reprogramming the window control module, Testing all windows Total cost was 200€ and the automotive repair took about 2 hours. The new switch resolved all issues and windows have worked perfectly since. To provide more specific guidance for your case: Could you share: Whether you hear any sounds when pressing the switches? If the windows worked intermittently before failing completely? If any other electrical systems show issues? Whether error codes point to a specific door or general system fault? These details would help determine if your Crafter has the same root cause or needs different repairs.

Thanks for sharing the repair details. Just had my latest service last week and they didnt spot any window-related issues back then at 52643KM. In my case, there is a slight buzzing sound when pressing the window control switches, suggesting the regulator motor might be getting power but failing to operate. Before complete failure, the passenger windows would occasionally work while the driver window was completely dead. The error codes specifically point to the driver side door panel circuit. No other electrical problems noticed, central locking, mirrors, and other door functions work normally. Would it make sense to first check the window mechanism and wiring in the driver door before replacing the entire regulator motor assembly?

Thanks for those additional details. The buzzing sound with your window switches is actually quite telling. Based on my ID.3 experience and your symptoms, I suspect your issue is different from what I encountered. The buzzing noise when pressing the switches, combined with the driver window being completely non-functional, strongly suggests a failing window regulator motor rather than a switch problem like mine. The window mechanism inspection is definitely the right first step. When my workshop initially checked my car, they tested the window regulator motor connectivity and movement before proceeding with any parts replacement. Since your error codes point to the driver door and you hear that buzzing, the window regulator assembly in that door is likely the culprit. Quick diagnostic tip: if the window regulator motor makes that buzzing sound but the window doesnt move, its often because the motor has failed internally while still receiving power. This matches your progressive failure pattern, passenger windows working intermittently while the driver side completely failed. For reference, a complete window regulator motor replacement typically costs between 300-400€ including labor. Much more than my switch replacement, but still better than changing multiple components unnecessarily. Would you mind checking if the buzzing sound changes in pitch or intensity when you try operating the window in different positions? This could help confirm if its truly the regulator motor before proceeding with repairs.

Thanks for the detailed explanation about the window regulator motor. The buzzing sound does vary depending on window position, its louder when trying to move the window from fully closed and gets quieter in mid positions. After checking some repair videos, I opened the door panel to inspect the window mechanism. The window track looks clean and properly aligned, but I noticed the regulator motor has slight play when moved by hand. This seems to confirm your diagnosis about the regulator being the likely cause. I will schedule the repair next week and have them replace the window regulator assembly in the driver door first. If that resolves the main issue, we can monitor the passenger windows and replace those regulators only if they continue having problems. The 300-400€ cost estimate helps with planning. Much better than replacing multiple components or the entire window control system. Will update once the repair is completed in case others encounter similar issues with their vehicles.
