VW Crafter EV Washer System Failure Despite Full Tank

My Crafter electric shows a dashboard light for washer fluid, but the tank is full. The windshield washer just stopped working completely. I checked the spray jets and they seem clean. Already got some bad repair bills lately, so wondering if this could be a simple fix or if the washer motor is gone. Anyone had similar issues with their 2022 Crafter EV? Currently at 139130KM.

Had the exact same issue on a 2019 e-Transporter. The warning light for washer fluid kept showing despite a full tank. After inspection, the wiper system had two problems: a faulty level sensor and a clogged filter before the washer motor. The level sensor was sending incorrect signals, triggering the dashboard light constantly. The clogged filter restricted flow to the windshield cleaning system, making it seem like the washer motor failed. Got it fixed at the garage. The repair was straightforward, they cleaned the filter, replaced the sensor unit, and tested the windshield cleaning system. Not a major repair job, much simpler than replacing the entire washer motor. Check if your washer motor makes any sound when activated. If you hear humming but no spray, likely just the filter. If completely silent, could be the motor or electrical connection. Worth having it checked since driving without functional washers can be unsafe, especially in dusty conditions. Suggest inspecting the filter first, its the most common and least expensive fix for this symptom combination.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Having the same symptoms now with my 2022 Crafter. The windshield washer system is completely dead and that warning light keeps flashing even with a full tank. Good to know it might just be the filter and sensor rather than a failed washer motor. Would you remember roughly how much the repair cost? Also, has everything worked fine since the fix or did you notice any other issues? Planning to take it to the shop next week but trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting it fixed at the mechanic, the wiper system has worked flawlessly. The warning light issue was fully resolved, no more false fluid level alerts on the dashboard. The total repair bill came to 25€, which covered fixing the low washer fluid warning and cleaning the system. Much cheaper than I initially feared, especially compared to replacing a washer motor. For over a year now, the windshield cleaning system has performed perfectly. No recurring issues with either the spray function or warning lights. The wiper fluid level sensor now reads accurately, and the spray pattern is actually better than before they cleaned everything out. Really glad I had it checked instead of assuming the worst. Sometimes these warning light problems have simple solutions. Would definitely recommend getting yours looked at soon, its likely a similar straightforward fix rather than a major repair.

Just took my Crafter to the shop today, huge relief! After reading about your experience, I was hoping for a similar simple fix, and that's exactly what it turned out to be. The mechanic found a clogged filter and faulty fluid level sensor, just like in your case. Total bill came to 35€ for parts and labor. The windshield washer works perfectly now, and that annoying warning light finally stopped flashing. The spray jets are delivering a strong, even stream of washer fluid again. Really glad I asked here before assuming the worst about the washer motor. Would have hated spending hundreds on an unnecessary replacement. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, saved me both money and worry.
