VW Eos Active Hood & Airbag Warning Needs Urgent Fix

Recently my VW Eos (2011, diesel, 88k km) displayed an Active hood fault warning along with an illuminated airbag light. The car safety system also shows the spring actuators were triggered. After a bad experience with my last mechanic, I am looking for advice from others who dealt with similar pedestrian safety system issues. Has anyone encountered this problem and can recommend a reliable fix? Most concerned about possible car sensor malfunctions and whether this requires immediate attention.

The pedestrian protection system fault you describe matches what I encountered on my VW Passat TDI 2008. The impact sensor and hood latch mechanism required complete replacement after displaying identical warning messages. This is a serious safety issue that needs immediate attention. The active hood system is designed to protect pedestrians in case of collision by raising the hood slightly to create a crumple zone. When the car sensors malfunction, the system may not deploy correctly in an emergency. In my case, the fault was traced to corroded wiring connections at the front impact sensor, which also affected the hood latch electronic controls. The repair involved: Full diagnostic scan, Replacement of front impact sensor unit, New hood latch mechanism, Reset of the safety system computer The car electronics needed recalibration after parts replacement to ensure proper communication between all safety components. Until repaired, the airbag warning indicates the entire safety system is compromised. Suggest having this checked by a certified VW technician who can properly diagnose and reset the system. These sensors are part of critical safety equipment and require specific diagnostic tools to repair correctly.

Thank you for sharing those details. My crash detection system behaved similarly, warning lights and fault messages appearing suddenly. After getting it fixed at a certified shop, the safety system has worked flawlessly. The repair resolved the airbag light and system fault warnings completely. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the full repair? Also, has everything stayed working properly since the fix? No recurring issues with the pedestrian safety features?

Had my car checked last week and can confirm the active hood fault is completely resolved now. The collision detection system and all related safety features are working perfectly since the repair. No warning lights or error messages have returned. The total repair cost was 315€ for replacing the faulty acceleration sensor. The mechanic found the car sensor connections had deteriorated over time, causing the system to trigger false warnings. The diagnostic scan revealed the exact issue quickly, and the certified technician knew exactly how to address it. Been driving for two weeks since the fix, and all hood latch mechanisms and safety systems are functioning as designed. The investment was worth it for the peace of mind knowing the pedestrian protection features are fully operational again. Definitely recommend getting these issues addressed by certified technicians who understand these complex safety systems.

After reading your experience, I took my Eos to a certified VW workshop last week. The technician found similar issues with corroded sensor connections affecting the collision detection system. The total repair came to 380€, which included a new impact sensor and recalibration of the car safety system. The mechanic was thorough and explained how the hood latch mechanism connects to the broader safety network. They completed the work in about 4 hours, including a full system diagnostic check. Since the repair, all warning lights have cleared and the active hood is working correctly. What a relief to have this fixed by someone who knew exactly what they were doing. The car sensor readings are all normal now and the pedestrian safety features are back to full functionality. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who seemed unsure about these specialized systems.
