VW Eos Sunroof Blind Motor Failure Fix Needed

Hey everyone! Looking for advice about my 2009 VW Eos (70595km, gasoline). The electric sun blind system is acting up, it wont move at all and seems stuck. Already got an error code stored in the system. Had some questionable experiences with mechanics lately, so I want to know if anyone here dealt with a similar sun visor issue. Wondering if its just the motor or something more serious? Any recommendations on what to check first or rough cost estimates for repairs would be super helpful.

I had the same sun blind system failure in my 2012 VW CC. The problem started similarly, complete failure to respond and an error code in the system. After inspection, it turned out the motor assembly for the interior sun protection mechanism was faulty. The main issue was not just the motor, but also the corroded electrical connections inside the sun blind control module. When dealing with electric window visors, moisture often gets trapped and causes these connections to fail over time. In my case, the repair required: Removing the headliner, Replacing the complete motor unit, Installing a new control module, Testing the car blind system functionality This was a significant repair that took about 4 hours at the shop. While not critical for driving safety, leaving it unfixed risks the UV protection system getting permanently stuck in one position. The symptoms match yours exactly, no movement, stored error code, complete system failure. Worth noting that these electric sun protection systems in VWs from that era often show similar failure patterns around the 70-80k kilometer mark. My recommendation would be to have it properly diagnosed rather than attempting DIY fixes, as accessing the components requires specific knowledge of the interior accessory layout.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the sunshade repair. Very helpful to know about the corroded connections, sounds exactly like my problem. Quick follow up, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the full fix? Also curious if youve had any other issues with the car blind system since the repair?

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. After my sunshade repair job was completed and the motor issue fixed, the sun blind has worked flawlessly. It was a relief to get the interior accessory functioning properly again. The total bill came to 330€, which covered both parts and labor for the car sunshade system. The repair shop had to deal with the corroded connections and replace the motor unit, but they did a thorough job. Since the fix 8 months ago, the electric sun blind moves smoothly with no problems. Having a working UV protection system really makes a difference, especially during sunny days. For what its worth, the investment was definitely justified considering how much we rely on the car interior comfort features. Much better than leaving it stuck and risking further damage to the sunshade mechanism.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I bit the bullet and took it to the shop yesterday. Sure enough, just like mentioned here, they found corroded connections in the sun blind system. The mechanic showed me the old parts, the motor was totally shot and there was visible damage to the wiring. Total cost ended up being 290€ for the full sunshade repair. They had it done in about 3 hours. The car blind is working perfectly now, smooth and quiet operation. Really glad I got it fixed rather than leaving it stuck. What really helped was going in knowing what to expect thanks to the info shared here. The mechanic confirmed these issues are pretty common in VWs from that period. At least now I have proper interior sun protection again and one less thing to worry about!
