VW Fox Airbag Warning Light Issue Fixed for Under €200

My VW Fox (2006, Diesel) has an airbag warning light that stays constantly illuminated on the dashboard. The automotive safety system appears to be malfunctioning, but I cant pinpoint the exact cause. The airbag sensor light came on suddenly without any prior warning signs. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their restraint system? I would appreciate feedback on potential causes and repair solutions, particularly from those who have had this fixed at a workshop. What was the diagnosis and repair cost in your case?

I had a similar airbag repair situation with my VW Polo (2008, Diesel). Being someone with moderate car repair experience, I initially thought the SRS light issue would be more complex. The airbag sensor warning appeared suddenly during normal driving. After a basic diagnostic check, the workshop found a loose cable connection in the airbag system under the driver seat. This is actually a common vehicle safety concern in these VW models. The fix was straightforward. The workshop cleaned and properly reseated the connection points, then reset the car safety system. Total cost was 95€ for diagnostic and repair work. Before suggesting specific solutions for your Fox, could you share: Have you noticed any other warning lights? Did this start after any recent work or maintenance? Does the airbag light flicker or stay constantly on? Have you had any recent impacts or water damage? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced with the cable connections.

Latest service was at 119000km. Thanks for the detailed response. The airbag warning light stays constantly on without flickering. No other warning lights are present on the dashboard. The issue started about a week after a routine oil change, but I cant be certain if theres a connection. No recent impacts or water damage to report. When they perform the crash sensor diagnostic, should they also check the wiring under the passenger seat? I heard the airbag deployment system can have similar connection issues on both sides. The car safety system had been working fine until now, so Im hoping its just a connection problem like in your case rather than a complete airbag sensor replacement.

Thanks for those additional details about your VW Fox. Your situation does sound remarkably similar to what I encountered with my Polo. Since your airbag warning appeared after a service, there is a good chance the wiring connectors were disturbed during maintenance. When working on my Polo, the technician explained that the crash sensor system includes multiple connection points that can be sensitive to movement. The inspection should definitely include both driver and passenger sides. The airbag sensor system works as an integrated unit, and connection issues can occur under either seat. My repair initially focused on the driver side, but they ended up finding loose connections under both seats. For a thorough vehicle safety check, have them inspect: Wiring connectors under both seats, Main crash sensor connections, Clock spring in the steering wheel, Central airbag control module With no other warning lights or crash history, loose connections are the most likely cause. The complete diagnostic and repair cost should be similar to what I paid, around 95€, unless they find a failed airbag sensor that needs replacement. Let us know what the workshop discovers. Your feedback could help others with similar airbag recall or warning light issues on these VW models.

Thanks for the advice. I scheduled an appointment with my local workshop for next week. They quoted 85€ for a full diagnostic of the restraint system, including checking all the wiring points mentioned. The technician on the phone agreed that since the airbag warning light came on after servicing, its likely related to disturbed connections. They will inspect the crash sensor system on both sides and verify all airbag deployment components are properly connected. I feel more confident now knowing this is potentially just a wiring issue rather than a complete airbag sensor failure. Will update the thread once I get the final diagnosis and repair completed, as it might help others with similar VW airbag warning light problems.
