VW Fox Multiple Warning Lights Need Urgent Diagnosis

Need advice with multiple error messages in my 2011 VW Fox diesel. The engine light came on and now Im getting warnings in both the speedometer and infotainment display. Not sure if I should trust my regular mechanic after a recent bad experience. Looking to get it checked with a diagnostic scanner but would like to hear if anyone has dealt with similar issues. Car has 111151km on the clock and otherwise runs fine. Has anyone experienced something similar with their Fox? What should I look out for when taking it to a shop?

Had a similar situation with my 2014 VW Polo TDI. Multiple error messages and check engine light triggered due to incorrect coding after an ECU update. The malfunction indicator showed several fault codes when scanned with an OBD-II reader. The root cause turned out to be a software conflict rather than a mechanical issue. A certified VW specialist needed to reprogram the vehicle using the latest software version and reset all modules. This resolved the conflicting error messages and cleared the engine light. Key points to consider: Get a proper diagnostic scan with a professional-grade tool, Look for shops with specific VW diagnostic equipment, Ask if they have experience with diesel ECU programming, Ensure they can provide before/after fault code readings, Request documentation of any programming changes While not mechanically serious, incorrect coding can affect various systems including engine management, transmission control, and driver assistance features. The speedometer and infotainment warnings suggest multiple modules may need recoding. Would strongly recommend having this checked at a shop specializing in VW diagnostics rather than a general repair facility.

Thanks for sharing your VW Polo experience. Same error pattern happened with my Fox last year. Engine light plus some weird messages on both displays. The scan tool showed multiple codes but it turned out to be a faulty control module that needed replacement and reprogramming. My usual garage used their engine diagnostics equipment but couldnt fix it so I had to visit a VW specialist. Just wondering, how much did the ECU update cost you in the end? Did any other issues pop up after they reset codes and updated the software?

Good news on getting those issues resolved! Just like you, I ended up going to a VW specialist who properly diagnosed and fixed the fault codes. The total cost came to 360€ for correcting the coding issues across the control modules. After the reprogramming, all error messages cleared completely and the check engine light stayed off. The diagnostic scanner confirmed everything was working as intended, with no new fault codes appearing. The infotainment system and speedometer went back to normal operation. One key takeaway was the importance of having a shop with proper VW-specific scan tools. The basic diagnostic equipment at regular garages often cant properly read or reset these complex coding issues. The specialist used advanced diagnostic software to ensure all control modules were properly synchronized after the update. Its been over a year now and no additional problems have surfaced. The malfunction indicator has remained off and all vehicle systems continue working correctly. The extra cost of going to a specialist was worth it for getting the job done right the first time.

I finally found a proper solution after dealing with those multiple warnings. Took my Fox to a certified VW workshop after my regular mechanic couldnt sort it out. The diagnostic scanner showed several fault codes related to the control module. The specialist confirmed it needed both replacement and reprogramming. Cost me 580€ total but worth every cent. They used their professional-grade diagnostic equipment to properly reset the engine light and clear all error messages. The speedometer and infotainment displays are now working perfectly. Really glad I switched to a VW specialist instead of trying cheaper options. They had the right tools and expertise to fix these computer-related issues. Been driving for 3 months now without any warning lights or error messages popping up. Lesson learned, when dealing with complex electrical problems, better go straight to someone who really knows these systems.
